2019/20 ski test: Atomic excels in the all-round

How are Atomic skis coming next season? We tested eight models, including track, woman and freeride. Here are the results!

The Atomic Redster G9 RS, presented in the GS racarver category, opens the dances: it is a ski that is perfectly at ease in curves with a medium arch and is rewarded by our Test Team for its maneuverability. The structure is light, easy to understand, present and enjoyable under the foot, with excellent turn-off. It is a fun ski without tiring, a little absent in the first corner immediately after the inversion but it is possible to exploit good for the whole day, without fatigue. In the slalom field, Atomic is the only house in the lot that presents a FIS compliant ski, coming out of the racecarver range. with its Atomic Redster S9 FIS. Having made these premises, the ski has an excellent edge grip, a perfect impulse in the change of direction, with great ease of setting the curve. It is a ski that stays glued to the snow thanks to the excellent stability that goes to offer an excellent cornering grip. The product is in any case very demanding and in tight corners it does not forgive errors or technical deficiencies, therefore it serves an excellent basis technique to make the most of it. The all-round perfomance of the Austrian house is the Redster X9 RS: it is a high-level proposal that immediately convinces for its high stability and excellent management, and is elected in the category as "Chosen by Testers" for the year 2019/20. The ski is centered for the category and it is proposed to skiers endowed with good technique, immediately the excellent stability of the ski stands out, which emerges with full marks from all the cards of our Test Team. The ski is stable in every situation, either hard snow or loose snow or less smooth terrain. There is great ease in running it, with a homogeneous curve arc and an innate ease in making it sharp, also thanks to the spatula that fits well. The defects are very limited, the ski does not stand out in manageability and curves narrow where the tail offers little response. In the category designed for the quieter skiers, all-round tourism the Redster TR has always been highly appreciated in our tests. In the level 5 category, therefore for skiers who have not yet reached the top of the technique, it is however almost out of category. The ski is light but with an important structure, with a fast entry curve and very easy closing. But it is above all the ease in setting the curve, always fast but safe, which makes the skier fall in love with this product. There is great stability and sidecut narrow enough to run in a few meters, however it is technically and physically demanding ”and weighed for a higher level. The Atomic Redster X7 WB is instead dedicated to the skiers in evolution. It is a ski that our testers immediately like, they tested it in winter snow conditions and moved. The ski is in fact awarded for excellent handling in the category, receiving the "Scelto degli Tester" award for the year 2019 / 20. It is a ski with which you can do almost everything, it is in fact progressive, light and manageable , And requires little effort giving so much yield. The curve setting is easy, and it is performing on most slopes, perhaps a little too rigid for the reference category. In freeski we find the Atomic Bent Chetler 120 and the Atomic Bent Chetler 100. The first, tested in freeride, results to have an excellent flotation in deep powder snow and behaves well in practically all the other snow conditions in freeride agree the testers. It is a ski with generous geometries, very suitable for freeriding and features stability, precision and buoyancy on deep snow and prefers medium / narrow curves. The Bent Chetler 100 tested both on and off the track, it's an all-mountain ski with powder ambitions and the backcountry is the most versatile of the Bent Chetler family. It is a ski that is not easy to understand, but it floats well, it is intuitive and manageable and the structure is soft, fun and therefore does not tire much. Tested on a few jumps, the ski remains stable both in the air and in the landing phase.
