Ski Test 2019/20: Elan on the slalom podium

The Slovenian house presents itself at the Neveitalia tests with four warhorses: GSX and SLX, the timeless Amphibio and the Ripstik for freeriding, let's see the results of our tests together.

The Elan GSX is the proposal for the giant racecarver sector. The structure of the ski appears as always light under the foot and very easy to insert when cornering: all our skiers praise the run, appreciating the combination of lightness, stability and manageability, which make skiing in the medium-wide arc pleasant and not very tiring. It is a product suitable for skiing on the track, with fast and wide curves, a situation in which it is very performing but the non-homogeneity of the deformation and the poor closure of the curve make it quite sectorial and not as versatile as would be expected. In the racecarver slalom field the proposal is the Elan SLX which, in the 2019/20 version, is greatly appreciated by our testers, who consider it among the best proposals on the racecarver SL field for the excellent performance in tight curves and for the excellent impulse in the change of direction, receiving the "Choice by testers" 2019/20 for both categories. The particular structure and sidecut makes the ski very intuitive, with a natural curve management, stable even in the wide arches and excellent in conduction. As mentioned the ski excels in the curves of choice, the short haul, and offers a high level of comfort especially on uneven ground. The impulse in the change of direction allows you to never have dead moments between one curve and another, but to always ski rhythmically, thus guaranteeing excellent maneuverability. Skiing is always manageable, even when it loses precision on the fast it never makes the skier surprising. The allround tourism sector is instead the land of choice for the Elan Amphibio 18 which is confirmed as a clearly simple ski that makes versatility its strong point. It adapts well to the various skiing, is versatile and intuitive and entertains in all conditions. The ski proposes itself in fact to be an excellent ally in the conditions of winter track, not necessarily pulled like a billiard table and on the different bows of curve, making the better in medium and wide curves. The ski is dedicated to the advanced tourist, who once he puts on the ski no longer wants to think about what he has on his feet, he has a fairly soft and basically stable structure. In the Freeride category, Elan confirms the famous Ripstik 106 model. For the 2019/20 season the Slovenian model proves to be the right ski for any terrain, from the top to the cabin. It has been tested to the extent 181cm and turned out to be a really easy and fun ski, suitable for medium to expert skiers, and also for women. The ski is in fact very reactive and very gradual in all phases of the curve, it has good buoyancy with powder snow and it is a good compromise for those who, despite their size, want to use it both on the track and off-piste.
