SKI-TEST 22/23: Atomic, the off-piste surprises!

Let's discover together today the Atomic proposals for the current season, between track and freeride, with some surprises among the skis chosen by the testers!

In the racecarver field, GS Atomic offers two high-level products, equipped with the new Revoshock structure, derived from World Cup skis. The Redster G9 RS Revoshock is very stable, planted on the ground, you ski leaving two rails: once edged the ski is not affected by the uncertainties of the terrain, it cuts the snow like two sharp blades, in fact receiving 100% approval in our test card. We recommend it only to already trained skiers, who know how to ride well and who love wide curves, even for some digressions in the poles. Alongside the Redster G9 RS we find the new Atomic Redster G9 Revoshock S. It is a ski that gets excellent feedback from our testers, it stands out for its stability and precise handling, which makes you tackle every slope with the safety of a very performing ski. It is a product with excellent handling and stability in large curves, it is stable and precise, it returns well under the foot. The curve closure is excellent, thanks to the present and rigid tail that directs the ski well at the end of the curve: in general the ski offers positive sensations, although it is not easy to tame. The ski has the high-level profile indicated by the Austrian company, we recommend it to high-level skiers (from L6 to L7) who love speed and who want to approach competition. The SL racecarver proposal is represented by the Redster S9 Revoshock S. It is a product with very well-defined characteristics, very sectoral for slalom and designed for those who love making many tight turns at speed: it is stable, precise, dedicated to those looking for performance even in the free field. It is ideal for the aggressive skier, who is not intimidated by the thoroughbred tool but wants to tame it. The absence of vibrations in the arc of the curve is very appreciated, it absorbs the roughness of the terrain well, even if it is difficult to insert when cornering at low speeds The all-round performance proposed by the Austrian house is the new Atomic Redster X9S Revoshock S. It is a product with excellent curve entry, very manageable and precise throughout the curve. The ski is very nice as a conduction in the arc average curve, while narrowing the radius tends to go straight and you start to struggle in the management of the curve. The ski hits the profile, but does not achieve the highest marks for the dichotomy between very precise and stable curve entry and the progressive loss of safety and stability in the second part of the bend, an attitude perhaps also sought after by the Austrian technicians to facilitate corner exit for less experienced riders. The proposals in the all-round sector are the two top models of the new Q series. At the top of the range we find the Redster Q9 Revoshock S: it is a proposal with a very abundant sidecut, which suggests more than anything else a ski that should not be exploited exclusively on groomed tracks. It is a stable product with gradual changes, with an excellent structure, easy and agile despite its size. The Redster Q9 Revoshock S handles well in the medium-narrow arc, has a simple edge grip, not too direct but aggressive enough, supports well when cornering and allows you to make nice inclines without touching the boot.The Atomic Redster Q7 Revoshock C is a product that copes well with the imperfections of the terrain, but lacks a lot in the speed of change, it has a non-lightning edge grip. In handling, with a medium-large turning radius, it is pleasant, it is suitable for those who want to approach fresh snow and for those who often ski on slopes that are not perfectly maintained. The proposals dedicated to the female public are focused on the Cloud line. At the top we find the Atomic Cloud C14 Revoshock S: an all-round ski for experienced female skiers, who are looking for a product designed and calibrated on female builds and agility but who do not give up on performance, even if with some sacrifices as regards comfort and handling. It juggles well both in medium and wide curves, where it always denotes a lot of stability, excellent handling and excellent edge grip, equal to some racecarvers. A step below we find the Cloud C12 Revoshock C. It is a ski that prides itself on stability, remains glued to the ground even on hard surfaces and at high speeds, performs best in medium turns and offers a good compromise between comfort, handling and estate. Uncertainties emerge on steep slopes where the ski starts to vibrate and feel like a dancer, not facilitating the management of the medium-large curve and forcing the skier to slow down and increase the number of curves. In freeski we find the best freeride ski for the year 2022/23: the Atomic Bent 110, a "pure" freeride ski that conquers the NeveItalia testers and earns the coveted prize of "Scelto dai tester" and the "Gold Medal" mention. Equipped with excellent buoyancy, it is a versatile, intuitive, fun and light uphill ski that opens up multiple opportunities for the user. Lightness, ease of floating on deep powder snow, very good on crusty and broken snow , gets along very well on a groomed track in any corner radius. As an all-mountain freeride proposal, Atomic confirms the Maverick 95Ti: it has an important structure and the behavior of the fins at the tip is excellent as regards the flotation of the tip. It is well structured, solid and responsive in the change phase, suitable for all types of skiers and all types of snow. Finally, Atomic has entrusted its Backland 95 to the freeride/ski mountaineering test: it is light, intuitive and has good buoyancy. The strong points are the torsional rigidity of the ski, the good behavior in tight turns and the lightness. In particular, it is the lightness of the ski combined with the torsional capacity that reward the ski in the test results.
