TEST: five TOP ski boots put to the test for you

We always like to point this out: the best test is carried out by your own foot and based on your own sensations. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to try a ski boot on the slopes, which is why our guide also devotes a great deal of time to unboxing the boot and carrying out a dry test with the different adjustments, to help you make the best possible choice among the models to try in the shop.

The Race Top segment represents the final step before actual race boots. These piste-boot models are designed for level 6–7 skiers and industry professionals. These models must guarantee excellent performance without compromising comfort, allowing them to be used for the entire day.

Our Test Team tried the Atomic Redster TX 130, Head Raptor WCR 140S, Lange RS 130 LV, Nordica Dobermann 5 S and Rossignol Hero World Cup 140.

One of the new products for next year is the Atomic Redster TX 130, with the new magenta-red colour that distinguishes the 2025/26 collection.
During the dry test, it is immediately clear how well the boot wraps around the foot, without creating gaps or excessive pressure points, except around the malleoli. The liner is not heavily padded, but still provides all-day comfort, with decent thermal insulation. On the slopes, it is the perfect boot for a level 6 skier who intends to ski all day.

The Head Raptor WCR 140S is THE Austrian brand’s best seller, known for its completeness, comfort and ease of customization thanks to Liquid Fit. During the dry test, however, getting the foot into the boot is fairly difficult, but once it is on, the adjustments and wrapping are excellent. There are a few too many pressure points and gaps around the foot. On the slopes, the boot is precise, stable and reactive, with a “true” flex, making it suitable for level 6–7 users.

The Lange RS 130 LV is the French brand’s flagship product. It has a very comfortable shell, an interesting flex and excellent power transmission, thanks to its perfect lateral hold. It is a well-balanced, non-extreme product, ideal for advanced skiers looking for precision, foot wrap and comfort.

The Nordica Dobermann 5 S is a war machine: streamlined, lean, essential and easy to put on but difficult to take off, with good wrapping around the cuff but less around the foot. Once on, it is comfortable, with sufficient room for the foot. On the slopes, however, it proves comfortable, highly reactive and progressive, with excellent lateral hold. It is perfect for the L6 skier who still wants to improve.

The Rossignol Hero World Cup 140 has been carried over from last season. It is a high-level product derived from the World Cup Z series, but much more comfortable. Indeed, the comfort is what surprises our Test Team, with easy entry and basic, convenient adjustments. On the slopes, the boot is confirmed as comfortable, user-friendly, technical and precise. The Rossignol is also recommended for level 6 skiers.
