Sostegni decree, 700 million for the mountains

The funds will also be addressed to ski instructors and schools. The official decree is awaited.

The latest draft of the Support Decree provides for the allocation of 700 million euros for the mountain areas that this season, between postponements and the next, have never been able to open the ski lifts due to the health emergency. The resources will flow into a fund at the Mef and will be distributed on the basis of a decree of the Ministry of Tourism (to be issued within 30 days from the entry into force of the Support Decree): 70% will go to the activities of the mountain municipalities which in the 2019 recorded tourist presences of 3 times higher than the number of residents and for the remainder to other municipalities, instructors and ski schools. In the last few hours, Valeria Ghezzi, President of Anef (National Association of cableway operators) had addressed an appeal to the Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, asking not to assimilate the categories of the mountain chain: "Dear Minister Massimo Garavaglia, Allow me these few lines after the rumors that the mountain bottom would be open to all mountain operators. I am writing to you as a restaurant, hospitality and ski lifts entrepreneur. Three essential trades in the mountain economy but on which the impact of the closures has been profoundly different due to the different structure of costs and revenues and the decidedly different incidence of fixed costs. I will not dwell on it, but if the categories were assimilated, I fear that many plants will not even be able to carry out maintenance and interventions necessary for next winter. We expect 8 long months of expenses and costs in total absence of revenues. We come from 12 months of costs incurred in total absence of revenues. As President of the Italian cableways, I ask you to give us, with the fund that was designed for the category, a chance of survival, which is also essential for all other economic activities in the mountains ”.
