Northeast China overwhelmed by heavy snowfall. First flakes of the season also in Beijing

Temperatures ten degrees lower than the seasonal averages have favored abundant snowfall in the north-eastern part of the country, also whitening the capital, as well as the site of the next Winter Olympics, Beijing.

The cold seems to have appeared in China: for several days there have been significant snowfalls in the Asian country, as has not happened for several years. The most affected city was Shenyang, the capital of the northeastern province of Liaoning, where the most important snowfall has occurred since 1905. Other provinces in northeastern China have been significantly affected by this wave of cold and snow: roads and numerous public transport lines have been closed in the provinces of Henan, Hubei, Tjanjin, Ahniu and Jiangsu. The snow has not even spared the capital of the Asian country; in Beijing within a few hours, 20 cm of snow fell, which caused considerable inconvenience to the roads of the great metropolis. In addition, a yellow warning (second alert level out of four) for frost and wind waves was issued by the local administration. It had been years since a meteorological event of this quantity had not occurred in Beijing, especially considering the precocity of snowfalls, much more usual in the period of December / January. Snowfalls that could also be a good omen for the Winter Olympic Games scheduled for February: if this is the winter plot, it is reasonable to expect a lucky Olympics from a snowy point of view, with landscapes and competition locations bleached by precipitation. and not only from artificial snow. It will be necessary to wait for the next few weeks to observe the trend of weather and rainfall on Chinese territory, in particular in the locality of Zhangjiakou, which will host most of the Olympic competitions. In this locality the temperatures are very cold during the winter period, unfortunately, however, the snow does not usually fall frequently, so you have to hope for a turnaround to have an Olympics with lots of natural snow and a setting worthy of a event of such importance, different from the green and bare peaks of Pyeonchang 2018.
