Luigi Bertschy, Councilor for Transport of the Aosta Valley Region, took a position to save a Summer Tourist season that at the moment it is not possible to foresee or plan.

The Prime Ministerial Decree of 26 April 2020 reports the same wording in article 1 paragraph 1 letter h in the decree of the beginning of March which required the closure of the lifts in the ski areas.
During the month of May the plants would still be inaccessible for the closure of the winter season and maintenance, but the concern is that that phrase reported in the decree currently in force and valid until May 17, will continue to be present in the next decrees thus blocking the opening of the lifts for the summer period.
The current de facto taxation makes the organization of companies uncertain for the summer opening, so important for the revitalization of the mountain economy, based on tourism and driven by the ski lifts. In particular, the Courmayeur Skyway, the Cervinia summer ski, the Pila bikepark, which are important attractors for the summer season, are likely to remain closed.
Cable transport can be carried out safely, by adopting contagion prevention measures similar to those provided for other carriers (planes, trains, buses).
Valle d'Aosta has sent to the Infrastructure, Mobility and Territorial Commission of the Conference of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces its proposal to amend the guidelines on passenger transport, included in the aforementioned DPCM, to take into account the peculiarities of cable transport and sent a note to the Aosta Valley parliamentarians, to the AVIF president and to the ANEF president so that everyone can be a spokesman for the important need to give this sector a job perspective.
“We worked with the manager Giuliano Zoppo to have cableway installations added to the guidelines by adding this sector that was not contemplated. This is a significant sector in our region also for the important level of employment that must be maintained, "says Bertschy.
"It is important that the government, in the measures planned for phase 2, also gives a perspective to this sector which, while not affecting much of the peninsula, remains crucial for mountain regions," continues Councilor Bertschy. "As Valle d'Aosta we will be the spokesman for all those mountain realities whose economy is based on cableway infrastructures even during the summer. Concrete action is needed, at all institutional levels, together with AVIF and ANEF representing the operators, in order to prepare a univocal response from the sector at the central level ".
