The ski resorts of Tyrol, Salzburg and Vorarlberg close the winter season early to counter the emergence of the coronavirus.

On Thursday evening, the authorities announced that all ski resorts will close the ski lifts from 15 March. The accommodation facilities will also be closed from Monday 16 March to allow tourists to return home.
Tyrol is the area most affected by the coronavirus, in particular the Ischgl station which had already announced the early closure of the winter season starting on Saturday 14 March.
"It was not an easy decision, but we take responsibility for all Tyroleans and all the people who are currently in Tyrol," said Günther Platter, governor of Tyrol.
"This decision was far from easy, but I see it as a necessary step to do everything possible to curb the spread of the coronavirus" are the words of Wilfried Haslauer, governor of the state of Salzburg.
"For us the health of our guests, employees and the people of Vorarlberg is our top priority," said Markus Wallner, governor of Vorarlberg.
