A class action of at least 2,500 Covid-19 positive tourists against Austria to seek damages.

The Austrian consumer protection association, VSV, has launched an initiative to seek compensation against the authorities of the renowned Tyrolean ski resort Ischgl, the outbreak that has infected half of Europe and that seems not to have taken the right restrictive measures in time in the height of the ski season when the coronavirus epidemic had already erupted.
2500 tourists have already joined the initiative, of which about 80% are Germans. Almost all of them are people who have been to Ischgl. The appeal is addressed to all those who tested positive at Covid-19 and who traveled to the Austrian state from March 5 onwards. Not only in Ischgl, but also in other places such as St. Anton am Arlberg, Sölden and Zillertal.
"Leaving ski resorts open, despite the authorities being aware, or should be, of the threat of mass contamination, is a good reason to consider claims for damages" writes the VSV association on its website.
The Ischgl ski resort is already under investigation by the Innsbruck authorities after hundreds of people (Icelanders, Norwegians, Danes, Swedes and Germans) tested positive for the coronavirus returning from the Tyrolean resort.
