In addition to their commitment to style and performance in sport, Colmar is essentially a technological company, always innovative to give an advantage to their devoted clientele. When customers asked for eco-sustainability, Colmar listened to and opened the way for another approach. Consistent with their commitment to the environment for almost a century they have taken steps to protect clothing with an eco-conscious solution. In the case of the Teflon EcoElite technique, it is a durable and water-resistant finish.
"The consumer is telling us that the future is sustainable - says Stefano Colombo, Director of Colmar Marketing - We were one of the forerunners in the production of sustainable fabrics because this is where the market is going and why it is the right thing to do" .
For Chemours, the challenge was to introduce a new technology to provide water-repellent finishes. "We have searched our catalog of materials made from renewable raw materials - says Bob Buck, Technical Fellow of Chemours - We have created everything and we have landed probably on the most durable and highest performance water repellent finishes".
Colmar was one of the first customers of Chemours to use Teflon EcoElite â„¢ produced with 60% of renewable raw materials and up to three times more durable than the existing non-fluorinated water-repellent finishes. It can also reduce the energy and use of water by 25% because less washes are needed. All this means a drastically lower environmental impact.
Teflon EcoElite â„¢ works on a variety of fabrics and is compatible with all commonly used auxiliary auxiliary finishes including wetting agents and extensors. And it allows complete flexibility in line with Colmar's reputation as a fashion brand. It is also considered effective enough by customers.
"The products treated with Teflon EcoElite â„¢ were the most successful in our collection - says Stefano Colombo - they are more popular thanks to the added value that the natural finish offers us and customers are getting the same performance compared to normal treatment, if not even better ".
Currently, the Italian clothing company uses Teflon EcoElite â„¢ on 90% of its ski clothing and almost 70% of all garments.
And, on the whole, the brand is great. In the first half of 2017, over 12 million items were produced using Teflon EcoElite â„¢ technology.
Zelan â„¢ R3 from Chemours is the breakthrough technology behind Teflon EcoElite â„¢. The finish effectively repels water and water based liquids such as fruit juice, hot coffee, red wine and more.
Zelan â„¢ R3 is certified USDA Certified Biobased Product. It verifies that Zelan â„¢ R3 meets or exceeds the levels set by the USDA for the amount of renewable and biological materials.
Market research in the United States, Europe and China has shown that consumers value the Teflon EcoElite â„¢ brand, its performance and renewability. Customers say that, for clothing made with Teflon EcoElite, they are willing to pay up to 7% more than other garments. And that would pay at least 17% more than generic water-repellent products. 66% of consumers say they are willing to pay more for environmentally sustainable products, but in all sectors of industry.
"Teflon EcoElite â„¢ meets exactly what we are looking for. The result of this work we have done together is the increase in sales as the customer appreciates that our leaders have what they are looking for, something special ", says Giulio Colombo, managing director of Colmar.
