Elan inaugurates his museum, Ingemar Stenmark carries out the traditional ribbon cutting

Elan, the historic Slovenian ski brand, opened its Alpine skiing museum near its production headquarters last month, a few kilometers north of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.

The great Swedish Ingemar Stenmark, who with Elan in 16 years of career has collected all his 86 successes in World Cup races, two Olympic golds and three world titles, has inaugurated the museum with the traditional ribbon cutting, at his side there was his friend and old rival Bojan Kri aj, another skier Elan and who, although competing under the then Yugoslavia, was the first Slovenian to win a World Cup race. Born in 1945 for the production of skis for the Yugoslav partisan troops in the resistance against Nazi Germany, Elan is one of the oldest ski manufacturers. In 1991 he introduced Sidecut Extreme (SCX), the ski design of the original shape that revolutionized the sport and thanks to which even those who were not a professional skier could be able to carve and not just to bend with 205 cm of skis under the feet. "Our goal is to create a space where Slovenians and foreigners can see an important part of Slovenian and sports history," says CEO Jeffrey Tirman. Visitors can learn about the evolution of Elan's ski technology, from yesterday's wooden matches to the thin leagues of tomorrow, as well as participate in simulations of interactive equipment. They will also find winning materials, skis that have touched the podium with Stenmark and other Elan celebrities, immortalized behind the glass. Elan is the first ski manufacturer to have a dedicated museum. "Slovenia has an important place in the history of skiing and in the development of ski equipment," says Elan Leon KoroÅ¡ec, director of the ski division. "The museum shows what we have done in the past and where we take inspiration for the future".
