We examined 5 models of the Californian company which has its roots in cycling and takes its name from the "Giro" of Italy, but which has been a leader in the snow world for years with its first helmets and more recently its goggles. OUR CHOICE: CONTOUR VIVID, a top mask in every sense! The Revolutionary Contour by Giro is the result of years of study and a boundless passion for innovation. A mask with an innovative appeal that best expresses the philosophy of the Californian brand: design and technology at the service of those who love the mountains! The main feature of the Giro Contour is the frame developed with EXV + technology (Expansion View Technology +), an upgrade of the already performing EXV, which offers the best field of vision on the market, guaranteeing a "widescreen" vision on the most beautiful views of each mountain! A wide field of vision that is also synonymous with safety and comfort. This unique and innovative construction technology is combined the effective Evak ventilation system, the "quick-change" assisted magnetic lens change system and the incredible VIVID Toric by Zeiss lenses that make the Contour a top-level goggle designed to give the perfect mountain experience. 9 lenses available with different colors and different percentages VLT (visible light transmission) from those with low ratings for full days to those almost completely transparent for night riding. Each CONTOUR goggle (like most Giro goggles) is supplied with a second “Infrared” lens, obviously also VIVID Toric, for poor visibility conditions. VIVID TORIC lenses are injection molded and mimic the shape of the human eye to provide superior optical performance and creating a greater volume of air inside the mask to prevent fogging. METHOD VIVID, vaguely retro look for a mask of character Giro presents its new flagship for the 2019/2020 season: the Method Vivid, a goggle with a vaguely retro attractive design made for those who demand maximum visibility combined with style and comfort. The Method boasts a wide field of view and the best technology thanks to the Vivid by Zeiss lenses that improve the visual experience on the snow by increasing contrast and definition. EVAK Vent Technology keeps fogging under control even during the most massive efforts and the face foam with microfleece lining guarantees the best comfort throughout the day. BLOK, an excellent value for money with a style that stands out The Blok is the classic goggle suitable for every situation and perfect both for daily runs on the track and for breaking records once you get out of the gate. Comfortable and unobtrusive, the Blok thanks to its retro-style lenses, is characterized by a vintage style but which at the same time winks at the most modern design and technology. ELLA, frameles look and erogonomic design studied for the female face The Ella design boasts an elegant Quick-Change lens system and a clean, bold style. LAP VIVID: The VIVID technology patented by Giro is the result of a decade of studies on the visual experience on snow, unlike many others it is a lens created and developed specifically for winter use and for the frequencies of light that are most often encountered in the mountains. The conventional lenses of ski and snowboard goggles and normal sunglasses are designed to eliminate blue light, a common belief has always been that blue light = "bad light". But there is one thing that has escaped, the snow is not exactly white, on the contrary it contains a very high part of blue and it is also the most reflective natural surface where we can rest our eyes. Giro's research in collaboration with Zeiss has proven and demonstrated that “seeing the blue light” when looking at a ski slope or a snow-covered surface is essential to understand the shape, details and roughness of the terrain. VIVID technology processes blue light making contrast better and blocking harmful UV rays improves the visual experience on the snow by increasing contrast and definition of details. All this in a very short period of time: in the sudden changes of shadow / sun light it has really tangible results with a notable increase in visual comfort and safety. The lenses with VIVID technology reduce eye fatigue, increase reaction time, provide an extra gear in terms of confidence with the ground and guarantee optimal vision on the snow, especially in moments of weak light and shadow.
