They are called Green Menace and Green Gaia, they will be the first ski boots for 90% recycled material and will be available for the 2022/23 season. The Italian manufacturer Dalbello, part of the international Marker Völkl Group since 2015, confirms itself as a true pioneer of the sustainability of ski boots, making to date the most sustainable commercial boot in the sector with state-of-the-art elements in terms of eco-design . Dalbello's green ski boots are made from recycled materials up to 90 percent by weight. At the end of their life, 100 percent of Green boots can be recycled.

The new Green Menace and Green Gaia sustainable series consist of four models each. The junior boots are dedicated to young skiers of different ages and levels who wish to discover skiing. Dalbello has in fact created recycled boots for target groups that grow quickly and consequently the boots no longer fit and have a shorter lifespan. To reduce the impact on the environment, Dalbello has decided to use practically completely recycled materials for these models for the production.
For the REBOOT project, the plastic components of the hull and cuff of the green boots are made of 100 percent recovered plastic from recycled materials sourced directly from Dalbello's production. The process of injecting plastics into molds produces a lot of waste, but they are made of high quality plastic that only needs to be re-ground to be reused in other injection processes. Dalbello recovers these scraps and uses them for green boots.
The fabric and padding of the shoes are also made from 100 percent recycled materials, certified by each supplier. These include TPU foams of regrind material for uppers, recycled EVA for the shoe collar and recycled polyester.
Overall, up to 90 percent of the weight of each liner comes from recycled materials, while the remaining 10% is made up of glues and additives needed to make the material workable.
The boot levers are made from aluminum and steel, both of which are 100 percent recyclable, so Dalbello uses levers manufactured by companies that ensure the reuse of available metals. In addition, for processes related to the coating and polishing of metals, Dalbello uses a low-temperature powder coating that requires 35 percent less energy and a chemical-free aluminum polish. Both processes are certified by the supplier.
Dalbello plans to extend the REBOOT project to other product lines as well, creating additional green options for the consumer.In addition to launching its first recycled boots, Dalbello is also a proud partner of two research projects focused on sustainability: Repair 3D and LIFE RESKIBOOT , both supported by the EU.
“LIFE RESKIBOOT was the first phase for Dalbello, now we are extending our already broad strategic and environmental vision of the brand, creating the most sustainable ski boots in this industry to date,” comments Jonathan Wiant, President Marker Dalbello Völkl Sports. “We are aware of our responsibilities regarding resource preservation and sustainability. Even before 2022, nearly 20 percent of a new ski boot in Dalbello was generally made from reclaimed material. "
Another milestone in Dalbello's drive towards sustainability is the current improvement made at the head office: from 1 November 2021, in fact, 100 percent of certified green and renewable energy is used for injection into ski boots and in the assembly factory in Asolo, Italy. This means that the new green boots are not only made with recycled materials, but also that the energy used to produce them is environmentally friendly.
