On the sidelines of the meeting in Milan, the president of CONI, Giovanni Malago, reiterated that there is no alternative to the San Siro for the opening ceremony but adaptation work is required.

The inspection by the delegation of the International Olympic Committee of the facilities and infrastructures that will be called upon to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2026 ended today in Milan.
The visit ended with a meeting between representatives of the IOC and the organizing committee of the Games during which Sari Essayah, head of the Coordination Commission of the IOC, declared: "This visit gave us the opportunity to meet the new managing director Andrea Varnier with whom we had a very constructive discussion; now we move on to a more operational phase. Now the next steps to be taken will be focused on the priorities we have identified, the first of which concerns budget optimization since we are facing a very difficult period, between inflation, high energy prices and the international crisis".
The president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, took the opportunity to address the San Siro issue. "It's fine for the Games if it stays but it's clear that in this case we need to fix various things that are not in line with the needs of an Olympic opening ceremony", said Malagò who highlighted that there are no suitable alternatives. "I don't know there is another facility that can have 80,000 spectators to host this event, an important issue also for revenues".
