At the IOC session on Monday, which will award the Winter Olympics of 2026, a large political representation is expected from Stockholm to demonstrate the painstakingly achieved support of the institutions for candidacy.

Focused on it for months due to the difficulty of finding support from the new government and the Stockholm authorities, the candidacy of Stockholm - Are has had to respond to further requests from the International Olympic Committee in recent hours. According to the AFP agency that had access to a letter from the IOC, the point is the absence of a binding economic commitment, a financial guarantee that could jeopardize the construction of the Olympic Village. The parties involved minimize; a Stockholm spokesman defines the exchange as normal within the positive and constructive dialogue that has been established with the IOC, while the Sports Director of the International Olympic Committee, Christophe Dubi, has defined it as a usual final retouch.
Richard Brisius, manager of the Swedish nomination, remained on the same line by acknowledging that "there were areas that required some clarification as is normal at this stage of the process. We have been working hard for two years and now the government has also given its support and we are extremely satisfied ".
To demonstrate the support of the institutions, a qualified representation from the Swedish political world will fly to Lausanne; the delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven with Crown Princess Victoria, a member of the Honorary Council of the International Paralympic Committee. Their mission will be to transmit to the members of the IOC the unconditional support of the Swedish government for the candidacy for the first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the country. Alongside them will be Stockholm mayor Anna König Jerlmyr, capital county governor Sven Erik Österberg, Are mayor Daniel Danielsson and the mayor of the Latvian city of Sigulda, where Bob, Sledding and Skeleton, Ugis Mitrevics.
