In Lyon (where all the ice events except speed skating will be held), the decisive meeting on the Alpes 2030 programme has now "sealed" the plans: in alpine skiing, L'Eclipse will host the downhill, super-G and team combined events, while Face de Bellevarde will host the men's giant slalom and slalom, with the women competing on Joseray, which is therefore expected to feature on the World Cup calendar as a sort of test event. The possibility of a return for Oreiller-Killy has been discarded.

The planning is now final, and the 2030 Winter Olympic Games in the French Alps have been approved by the IOC regarding the latest decisions on the venues for alpine skiing and the ice disciplines.
The meeting of the Alpes 2030 Games Coordination Commission, held today in Lyon, put an end to the final hypotheses for changes, particularly concerning the leading discipline; everything has now been settled between Cojop, currently led on an interim basis by Vincent Roberti following the departure of president Edgar Grospiron, and the International Olympic Committee, with the speed events confirmed in Courchevel and the technical events in Val d’Isère.
In the former case, L’Eclipse will host both men and women (as already seen in the World Cup) and, despite some reservations from the local organisers due to a lack of available resources and staff, the team combined events will also take place at the Savoyard venue.
With “cousin” Méribel (which, together with Courchevel, hosted the 2023 World Championships) losing the runoff to Val d’Isère, all the technical events will therefore be held in the resort that symbolises great French skiing: the legendary “Face de Bellevarde” will host the men’s giant slalom and slalom, traditionally in mid-December for the Critérium de la Première Neige, while the Oreiller-Killy idea for the women’s events has been definitively shelved. The women will therefore compete on “Joseray”, which is expected to be included in the World Cup calendar in either 2027/28 or 2028/29 as a genuine test event.
In Lyon, meanwhile, all the ice disciplines will be held, except speed skating, which has already been assigned to the temple of Heerenveen in the heart of the Netherlands. The various venues have been defined in detail, with ice hockey’s main base at the Décines-Charpieu arena and some matches at Halle Tony-Garnier, while all figure skating, short-track events and curling will take place at Eurexpo in Chassieu.
