The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee yesterday sanctioned the introduction of eight new races in the program of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. No to the team event in alpine skiing in its current format.

The request from IBU, the International Biathlon Federation, for inclusion in the Single Mixed Team Relay program is also rejected.
The two different race venues for male and female alpine skiing (Bormio and Cortina) mean that the parallel Team Event will not be disputed. In its place, the FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) put forward the proposal for the creation of an Alpine combined team event. The application for introduction will be presented to the IOC council in April 2023, proposing the race alongside the traditional combined event and replacing the parallel team event.
Finally, the competitions for the new discipline of Ski Mountaineering have been defined: the Olympic medals will be awarded in the Sprint competitions and in a mixed team event while there is no proof that it is the essence of the discipline, the Individual.
