The International Olympic Committee has formalized the list of 17 candidates who will compete for the two available places during the Beijing Olympics.

The French champion had been preferred in a duel not without controversy to the asstist Renaud Lavillenie two years ago by the French Olympic Committee as a candidate to replace Tony Estanguet in the highest body representing sports athletes, whose mandate ended with the Games of Tokyo.
Among the other candidates in the running, the names of the Swedish Frida Hansdotter and the Dutch figure skater Ireen Wust stand out. The two elected representatives will replace the Commission, which also includes Federica Pellegrini from Tokyo, Hayley Wickenheiser who ends his eight-year mandate in Beijing and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen who resigned from his post in 2016.
