Milano-Cortina 2026 has the full support of citizens according to the IOC report

The report of the IOC working group shows that the candidacy of Milan-Cortina is the one with the greatest popular support among the cities still in progress.

Juan Samaranch, IOC vice-president, and the Commission that in the last six months has worked closely with the cities that had shown interest in hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics have also commissioned Publicus Media to survey the population to evaluate the support that the Olympic project found among the citizens of the areas concerned. The results of the consultation, carried out in April, were made public within the report delivered in recent days to the IOC members. At the national level, Italian respondents replied that they were 81% favorable, 12% neutral and 6% against. The Swedes were in the minority in favor of the Stockholm candidature (46-30 - 24) while the Canadian citizens in favor of the candidacy of Calgary reached 61% (23% neutral, 17% against). The survey also included Erzurum, the Turkish candidate who was excluded during the IOC session due to insufficient infrastructure, with practically plebiscite popular support levels with 90% in favor. The work of Publicus Media also allows to have the pulse of the situation at the local level. It emerges that while the Milanese and the Veneto have expressed a similar favor (83% for the former, 82% for the latter) remains to convince a quarter of the citizens of the rest of Lombardy favorable only to 71%. In Sweden (46% in favor) the greatest support arrives in the city of Stockholm (49- 26 - 25) while already in the province the favor drops to 42% with a 32% of opposing opinions. A situation much worse than that found in Canada where the organizers of Calgary and local authorities have been forced to convene a referendum on November 13th. In the city that is supposed to host the Games, 54% of respondents were in favor, 19% neutral and 28% against, while Alberta's residents are certainly more enthusiastic (61 - 26 -13)
