It was a discounted pass after the defeat in the referendum last Tuesday and today came the vote of the city council of Calgary writing the word End on the Canadian candidacy.

The 56.4% collected by the No to the Olympics in the popular consultation between the citizens of Calgary regarding the candidature for hosting the Winter Olympics of 2026 was not in itself binding but a positive result was linked to the financing of the federal government and the state dell''Alberta. The city of Calgary could have continued but it would have had to bear all the necessary public funding of 3 billion Canadian dollars. The city council today decided unanimously with 15 votes in favor of withdrawing the candidacy. "The time has come to follow the popular will, thanks to the many people who have dreamed of this project", are the words of the mayor Naheed Nenshi who write the word Fine.
Only Stockholm and Milan-Cortina are now officially in competition. To the many problems that already weighed on the Italian candidature in recent days has been added the discussion on the future of CONI that would have a central role in the financing of the project while in Stockholm the central government has not yet been formed and the coalition that was created in at the Stockholm city council after the last administrative elections, it gathered around no at the Olympics. And there are less than two months to 11 January, the date by which the candidates must present the guarantees for the financing of the operation to the IOC.
Making the best of a bad game, the CIO is doing everything to present itself at the Lausanne session at the end of June with two applications still alive; in recent days, director Christophe Dubi has clearly said this. "In exceptional situations we can be exceptionally flexible.There is no reason to stop a project pending the required guarantees.You can continue with everything else, which represents 98.5% of the entire work".
