Olympic Games
In the National Council last Tuesday the CONI decided to advance the candidacy of an Italian city to host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. A commission led by Carlo Mornati will have to examine the Milan, Turin and Cortina files and express an opinion not later beyond September 10th.

The city of Savoy decided to play its best cards on sustainability issues and on the legacy of the 2006 Olympic Games. The limited budget, the proximity of the venues and the existence of most of the infrastructures are certainly elements of this candidature, born however under a bad star, since the mayor Chiara Appendino is still struggling with a strong internal opposition to the city council. The project involves the construction of an Olympic village in Turin, in the former Thyssen industrial area, to which are added two other smaller villages in Bardonecchia and Sestriere. Piazza Vittorio Veneto has been identified as the location for the medal plaza, while the press center would rise at Lingotto Fiere. On the other hand, as regards the competition venues, the Sestriere would host Alpine skiing, in Pragelato Biathlon, Fondo, Salto and Combinata nordica, in Bardonecchia Snowboard, Freestyle, Slopestyle, Skicross and Big Air. In Cesana the 2006 gut would be restored to host the Bob, Skeleton and Slittino competitions. Pinerolo and Sauze d'Oulx would be the locations designated for the Curling and Mogul / Aerials competitions. In the city all the other sports would be held indoors, Speed ​​skating at the Oval, Hockey at the Pala Alpitour, Figure skating and Short track at the Palavela. An application that follows in all respects that of 2006 and that could certainly have greater chances of success if the dissent had to be resolved within the city council.
