An opening ceremony was staged in a surreal atmosphere, as the "Olympic truce" was violated with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and a continuing war.
The Paralympic Winter Games, scheduled until next March 13, will begin next night with the first competitions, starting with the free descents of alpine skiing, but on the Chinese evening there was a parade of all the delegations at the National Stadium in Beijing, before the eyes of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and with great emotion for the presence of Ukrainian athletes.
Thirty-two Italians competing, led by Giacomo Bertagnolli (4 medals in alpine skiing at PyeongChang 2018), standard-bearer of a group with many ambitions. Even if competing in this climate will not be easy.
