Cold shower for Olympic hockey: there will be no NHL players in Beijing

The too many games postponed due to Covid have prompted the National Hockey League and the player association to find an agreement not to let any player belonging to the league take part in the Olympic Games.

Bad news for the world of hockey: at the next Olympic Games in Beijing there will be no NHL star (the North American top league), so it will not be possible to admire the exploits of players of the caliber of Ovechkin, Crosby and McDavid. The reason that prompted the league and the players association to make this decision is the high number of matches postponed for Covid (more than fifty at present) and the significant increase in Covid cases among the players of the various teams. ; so much so that the Christmas break of the championship has been brought forward so as not to aggravate an already difficult situation. The news was reported by Espn, an official release from the NHL is expected tomorrow, to announce the definitive renunciation of Beijing 2022. It will be another hockey Olympics without stars, after the 2018 Pyeonchang Games they had been totally deserted by NHL players; the same league had stipulated an agreement according to which it would participate in the Beijing Games and the following edition, pandemic permitting. The current pandemic situation will not allow the presence of world hockey stars in Beijing; for the NHL, the deadline for renouncing the Olympic event would have been January 10, but the official decision seems to have come well in advance.
