Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrrison spoke out with the idea of boycotting the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games in favor of human rights. The indissoluble bond of his thought is linked to tennis and precisely to Shuai Peng. After the WTA announcement to suspend tournaments in China due to Peng's health conditions, the whole world has moved to find out more about it and Australia is considering taking this step towards China.
It would be a diplomatic boycott that would not compromise athletes from participating in the Olympics. The idea that emerged in recent weeks joins those of three other countries intending to follow in the footsteps of the Australians: the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. A decision that could partially compromise the next Winter Olympics. The current situation is reminiscent of the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Summer Games, but at that juncture it failed. According to rumors, Australians would like to be an example to the whole world on the issue of human rights, and with the Brisbane 2032 Olympics in the near future they plan to use it as an ideal to follow.
With the Olympics almost upon us on February 4th, it remains to be understood what the final decisions of the countries will be with the hope that everything can proceed in the right direction.
