The Omicron variant arrived in the country leads the organizers to adopt more stringent rules. A few weeks before the Beijing 2022 Olympics comes a further squeeze from Beijing which has decided not to sell tickets to the local public, but will invite a small number of people.

The organizers have not yet clarified who or how many spectators will be able to see the competitions live, but it is assumed that it is a contingent number of fans. Therefore, the winter Olympic review will be the second after the Tokyo 2022 one to be held behind closed doors.
“Due to the serious and complicated pandemic situation and for the safety of the spectators, it was decided not to sell tickets anymore. Small groups of spectators will be invited. The organizers expect people to strictly comply with the countermeasures used before, during and after the events as preconditions to be able to play the Games in complete safety, ”they said from Beijing from what was reported to InsidetheGames. The initial idea of a 50% capacity is to be considered canceled.
The IOC had hoped to be able to guarantee the public a certain presence but unfortunately it will not. The confirmation comes a few days after the first Omicron variant case found in the country so much so that 20 million Chinese are currently in lockdown.
The organizers and the IOC have confirmed that the Olympic review will start on February 4th without any postponement.
