A combination that, exactly as happened for the male colleagues, offers very few starters (just 26), but three very heavy medals, the latest in Beijing 2022 for alpine skiing if we talk about individual competitions.
Thursday will therefore be the day of a race that we have not seen in the World Cup for two seasons, but which offers two favorites above all, not only because they won the last world title, and we are talking about Mikaela Shiffrin in Cortina, and the Olympic gold 2018, that is Michelle Gisin who in PyeongChang surpassed the American one.
For the descent scheduled at 3.30 Italian tomorrow (the slalom heat is scheduled at 7.00, with tracking entrusted to Mike Day, Shiffrin's technician), Michelle chose the number 7, Mikaela the 9 after finishing in front of everyone, but there were only 14 athletes at the gate, the last race held today.
Both have a good feeling with Yanqing's “Rock” and will be able to earn downhill on the main two other medal candidates, who respond to the names of Wendy Holdener and Federica Brignone. The Swiss drew 20 in the draw for the downhill run, the Aosta Valley 16, and it will be essential to finish in the first 7-8 positions (but the competition from the sprinters is not so strong) to start with a track in excellent condition in the decisive slalom, naturally limiting the gap as much as possible.
A different mission was that of Elena Curtoni (bib 13), who will have to stay in front of the descent to dream of a result similar to the fourth world place in Cortina, difficult to achieve for Nicol Delago who, in any case, will play his cards in the morning and then defend yourself in slalom. And Marta Bassino? In practice he has always paid a lot on a slope that is anything but suitable for his characteristics, but a result close to the top five is still feasible, also because the absence of Petra Vlhova still opens a door to get closer to the podium for others outsiders like Ledecka, Siebenhofer, Remme and Nufer.
