Many hot topics in a race that promises to be very hard fought and long, since not all the big names have chosen the first starting group. Many contenders for the gold medal, which in Pyeongchang 2018 was won by the German Peiffer in front of Krcmar and our Windisch. It is difficult to indicate the name of an absolute favorite given the great balance of the current season, with five winners in six Sprints disputed and even thirteen athletes on the podium. However, as seen in the Chinese context, Fillon Maillet and Johannes Boe seem to have an edge. Both are hunting for the third medal in as many races so far disputed.

The Azzurri, never on the podium this season, start as outsiders. Dominik Windisch, after a good performance in the Individual, will try to defend the bronze: a feat that would be epic given the values on the field and would lead him to be the most medalized Italian biathlete in the Olympic Games alone. Hofer, disappointed after the 20 km, seeks redemption. He has chosen the second starting group and fished the penultimate bib available and will start with 62. After him there are Tommaso Giacomel, at his Olympic debut, and Bormolini. For both of them this could be a test in view of the relay but the goal remains to qualify for tomorrow’s pursuit.
