Three nations are presented at the start with very solid quartets of absolute level. Norway, France and Russia will compete for medals and the Olympic title. The norge start as favorites, for the roadmap held in the current four-year period and for the names they can put on the field. Usually the central fractions in a relay are the decisive ones and the Scandinavians will have the Boe brothers, two of the three strongest biathletes at the moment. Just behind there is France, which has some question marks, such as Jacquelin's condition and reliability, but in the last fraction fielded Fillon Maillet, the best man at the moment to be deployed at the end of the relay. The Olympic champion in Individual and Pursuit leads the French to be slightly superior to Russia, which still has a respectable four aces.

The seasonal numbers speak of three Norwegian victories and one Russian success. Russia that has never dropped from the podium, while France boasts "only" two second places. In addition to the "big three", Germany and Belarus also took the podium, two of the outsiders along with Italy. The Azzurri will play Bormolini in the first fraction, with Giacomel in second and the Hofer-Windisch duo in closing. The scheme will be to defend oneself in the first part and then go to the attack in the last two fractions. Between the group of outsiders and the favorites is Sweden, gold in Pyeongchang 2018 ahead of Norway and Germany.
