Good news is coming from China. The organizing committee of Beijing 2022 has decided to open a small window for the presence in the stands during the Olympic review. Despite the restrictive measures imposed in the country, it has been communicated that the local public will be able to be present at 30% in indoor competitions. The number will rise in outdoor competitions until it reaches 50% of the capacity.
A sigh of relief and a rewarding decision for everyone. In any case, each spectator must be fully vaccinated and pass a molecular swab test before taking their place. Tickets will therefore be distributed to selected groups of people, and cannot be purchased at the counters.
Meanwhile, the first statements arrive from the biathlon facility in Zhangjiakou, in which the athletes are carrying out test laps to understand the conditions. To speak is Tiril Eckhoff, holder of the crystal ball and in search of the first Olympic gold; windy and very cold weather conditions that show no sign of abating. “The thermometer indicated -19 ° C but with the wind and especially downhill we felt at -29 ° C. I completely froze depending on the various points of the track. A terrible cold ”, the Norwegian champion told NRK.
Eckhoff trained with Mars Roeiseland, which for its part seems to be more resistant to these temperatures and these strong gusts of wind: “Being dry, the cold remains bearable and in any case we were prepared for everything. It was not necessary to lock yourself in your room as some Swedes have done today, especially cross-country skiers ”.
