A day to remember, the one that the Italian champions of winter disciplines experienced in Rome.
The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in fact hosted at the Quirinale Palace the ceremony for the delivery of the flag to the flag bearers who will represent Italy at the next Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022. Sofia Goggia and Giacomo Bertagnolli will be the symbols of the movement in China, as well as another Olympic champion, Michela Moioli (also present today in the capital, like Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino and her sisters Nicol and Nadia Delago alongside Goggia), who will wave the tricolor in the ceremony of closing of the five-circle event.
Goggia and Bertagnolli, both employed by the Gruppo Sportivo delle Fiamme Gialle, showed all their emotion, with the words of President Mattarella that have particularly impressed. “You will go to Beijing accompanied by the attention and affection of the Italians, it will be a fascinating adventure and the most important thing is the passion and desire you always put in to overcome your limits.
I want to underline the particular value of the Paralympic movement, which has grown a lot in recent years and is a measure of the civilization of a society ”.
Giacomo Bertagnolli, a 23-year-old from Trentino capable of winning 4 medals (with 2 golds) at the Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, explained that he “feels a great honor for having been chosen by President Pancalli. It will be a very difficult task because I will represent the whole Paralympic world and the friends who will be with me in Beijing. The important thing will be to tell through sport a story of values that still eludes many ”.
