Alpe di Mera

According to official figures, the resort offers almost 30 km of alpine ski slopes. The lifts run from 659 metres in Scopello to 1,742 metres on Monte Camparient, although the main ski area lies between 1,150 and 1,740 metres. The long run back down to Scopello makes it possible to use the entire vertical drop when snow conditions allow, while most skiing is concentrated on the slopes around the village of Mera.

The resort features predominantly blue and red runs that are wide, flowing and never excessively difficult. It is therefore particularly suitable for families, beginners and intermediate skiers, who can improve gradually without tackling overly demanding sections. The beginners’ areas with moving carpets are separate from the main runs, while more experienced skiers will find greater satisfaction on the slopes of Camparient and Bimella, where there are walls, changes in gradient and more technical descents, such as the Canalone.

Alpe di Mera is undergoing an important phase of renewal. The main innovation planned for the 2026/2027 season is the new ten-seater Scopello–Mera gondola, which is set to replace the historic two-seater access chairlift and the Capricorno chairlift. The new lift, with an intermediate station in the Alpe Trogo area, will significantly reduce ascent times and make access more convenient for families, pedestrians and skiers. At altitude, the fixed-grip Camparient and Bimella chairlifts, the Campo drag lift and the beginners’ area carpets will remain in operation. The chairlifts are not particularly fast, but they serve a compact, easily navigable ski area efficiently.

One almost unique feature is the village of Mera, located at around 1,560 metres and directly crossed by the slopes. During winter, the internal roads are closed to cars, and people get around on foot, on skis or on snowshoes among homes, hotels, restaurants, rental shops and ski schools. This pedestrian setting, together with the playgrounds and the area dedicated to bobsleigh and sledging, makes the resort particularly enjoyable for families with children.

The aspect of the slopes generally favours reasonably good snow preservation, supported by a progressively enhanced snowmaking system. The maximum altitude is not particularly high, however, and during milder winters the opening of the run back to Scopello in particular may depend on precipitation and temperatures. Alpe di Mera is not linked to Alagna or to the main Monterosa Ski area by ski runs, although it is managed by Monterosa 2000 and forms part of the Valsesia skiing offer.

In addition to alpine skiing, visitors can enjoy snowboarding, snowshoeing and walks in the snow along panoramic routes between Mera, Alpe Trogo and Boschetto. The resort’s compact size, ease of orientation and numerous slope-side dining options make it especially suitable for a day in the snow or a peaceful stay away from the crowds of the larger ski areas.

In summer, Alpe di Mera becomes a green terrace overlooking Monte Rosa. Trails and cycling routes lead to Alpe Meggiana, Rassa and the hamlets of the Valsesia, with itineraries suitable for families as well as hikers and mountain bike and e-bike enthusiasts. Wooden playgrounds, walks among the alpine pastures and panoramic routes complete a summer offering particularly suited to those seeking nature, tranquillity and outdoor activities.
