In view of the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championships, scheduled in Cortina d''Ampezzo from 8 to 21 February, there are many works planned to ensure the best possible tourist flow in view of a great event.
Among these, as Marina Menardi wrote on the portal vocidicortina.it, the construction work of the Son dei Prade-Bai de Dones cable car has not yet resumed, the plant that should connect Pocol to the Cinque Torri, with an intermediate station in Cianzopé locality. A work worth 21 million euros, financed entirely with public money, to be completed by January 2021 (even if the requested date is that of December 31, 2020) and which should have experienced an important acceleration, with the start of post lockdown work scheduled for the end of June. The problems are also of an environmental nature, so much so as to induce Leitner Ropeways, the South Tyrolean company that had won the tender for the work, to suspend the works and ask for technical and geomorphological investigations.
The area where the departure station should have been built proved to be particularly unstable, with the suspension of the excavations and the new extraordinary commissioner for the works of the World Cup, Valerio Toniolo, called to enforce the timing that his predecessor, Luigi Valerio Sant '' Andrea had guaranteed with the restart scheduled for 1 August. Everything is still standing, even if the Toninelli company had in the meantime cut the trees for the line of the first trunk, the one between Son dei Prade and Cianzopé, where the intermediate station should rise, before stopping as it lacks the green light from the forestry services for the second part, from Cianzopé to Bai de Dones, as the planned line is very steep and on land subject to landslides.
And there are also a dozen prescriptions to the project by the Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno, to which the judgment of favorable environmental compatibility is subject, ranging from "selective thinning interventions in ways that avoid the deterioration of local structural conditions and functional characteristics of the habitats of the additional species of community interest recognized for the investigated area, the compatibility with biotopes such as the Pocol peat bogs (departure station) and Lake Bai de Dones (arrival station), impacts on the ground and on the circulation of groundwater ".
In short, the solution does not seem so close ...
