Forni di Sopra

The resort officially offers 13 km of alpine ski slopes, extending from the valley floor at 907 metres to 2,067 metres on Monte Crusicalas. The skiable vertical drop therefore reaches 1,160 metres, a considerable figure for a ski area of this size. Artificial snowmaking covers 100% of the slopes.

The ski area is divided into two distinct sectors, Varmost and Davost-Cimacuta, which are not connected ski-in/ski-out. A transport service, locally known as a cat-bus, is used to travel between the two areas. This separation does, however, make it possible to clearly distinguish the area dedicated to more experienced skiers from the one aimed primarily at beginners and families.

Varmost is the main and more challenging sector. Three consecutive chairlifts take skiers from the village to above 2,000 metres, where broad views open up over the Friulian Dolomites. The Varmost 1, 2 and 3 slopes, together with the Fienili, Senas and Plan dai Pos variants, form a long descent towards the valley of more than five kilometres, allowing skiers to make use of almost the entire vertical drop of the ski area.

The Varmost slopes are predominantly red and black, with sustained gradients, changes of pace and long sections through the forest. They are therefore particularly suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers, who can enjoy technical runs that are generally uncrowded. The upper section is more open and panoramic, while the lower slopes gradually become narrower and more deeply immersed in the vegetation.

The Davost-Cimacuta sector, located on the opposite side of the village, instead offers shorter and easier slopes. The Cimacuta chairlift, the Davost drag lift and the magic carpets serve nursery slopes and runs suitable for children and those taking their first steps on snow. The Fantasy Snow Park and the main activities organised by the ski schools are also located here.

Overall, Forni di Sopra has 5 lifts and 3 magic carpets. The lifts are well suited to the layout of the ski area, although the three consecutive uphill rides needed to reach the top of Varmost make the return to altitude slower than in resorts served by a gondola. Its main strength remains the opportunity to enjoy long, technical descents in a highly scenic natural environment.

Forni di Sopra is particularly suitable for families looking for a compact resort and for experienced skiers who are more interested in the quality and vertical drop of the slopes than in the number of kilometres. Beginners will find a dedicated area in the Davost sector, while those who already have good technique can spend much of the day on the Varmost slopes.

Cross-country skiing offers 14 km of trails on the valley floor, with 3.3 km covered by artificial snowmaking and a 2 km illuminated loop. The winter offering also includes snow walks, snowshoeing, ice skating and ski mountaineering routes, to be tackled with the level of preparation required by the environment of the Friulian Dolomites.

In summer, Forni di Sopra is one of the main gateways to the Friulian Dolomites Nature Park. The Varmost lifts facilitate excursions to mountain huts and panoramic routes, while trails leading to the Giaf and Flaiban-Pacherini refuges and the various stages of the Friulian Dolomites Ring start from the village. The offering is completed by via ferrata routes, Adventure Climb Varmost, mountain-bike trails, the adventure park and walks along the young Tagliamento River.
