The La Thuile ski area is the first in the world to have developed a hydroelectric program that uses the artificial snow system to produce renewable energy.

In three years the Aosta Valley station has produced over 4.8 million kWh (4.8 GWh) exclusively from the power of the water that circulates in the artificial snow network. A successful technical challenge that shows once again that operators and companies in the ski sector constantly invest and innovate to protect the mountain where they work and live all year round.
The water circulating in the La Thuile artificial snow system makes two turbines run. These produce electricity which is transmitted to the Italian electricity grid by the Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque (CVA-Compagnie des Eaux du Val d''Aosta).
With this system, La Thuile produces on average 20% more energy than it consumes to supply electricity to pumps, compressors, snowmakers and buildings dedicated to the production of artificial snow in the ski area.
The French group MND through its subsidiary SUFAG, which markets complete solutions for the production of snow, has supported the Funivie Piccolo San Bernardo company since the beginning of this project, which manages the La Thuile ski area. The technical teams of SUFAG are responsible for updating the management software of the artificial snow network so that it also includes the functions necessary for the production of clean energy through hydroelectricity.
