Macugnaga, Filippo Besozzi: "We hope to be able to open the lifts for summer skiing"

Filippo Besozzi, manager of the Macugnaga ski lifts, tells Neveitalia his hopes for a restart in the summer season.

Last winter was a very difficult season which never started due to the health emergency. Many postponements for the opening of the plants which then in fact never came into operation. There are some ski resorts, however, that still hope to be able to get the lifts back in the coming months and offer a few days of summer skiing. Among these is Macugnaga, as Filippo Besozzi, manager of the ski lifts of the small Piedmontese ski resort, explained to us: "For Macugnaga, the summer season is very important for a public who loves walking, trekking, hiking and nature. Summer skiing is a small part of the services we offer: in recent years the weather conditions have allowed us to open the San Pietro ski lift in the upper part of Passo Moro on weekends, from the end of June to mid-July ". “In such a particular year where we have completely lost the winter season - continues Filippo Besozzi - we are here where we are scrambling to open. The economic situation is very difficult. Being able to reopen is that light of hope that we see at the end of a very bad period. We are still waiting to have some more precise indications from the Government. This winter we have collaborated with the ski clubs of our province which have already shown interest in summer skiing. But we also aim for an opening to the public precisely for a discourse of economic sustainability ". Filippo Besozzi also told how they experienced such a difficult winter season that caused great economic damage to the mountain sector: "We have always hoped to be able to open this winter, we had organized ourselves. The health protocol - which provided for the online purchase of ski passes, maximum number of people in the ski resort, distancing with the reduction of the capacity on the lifts - seemed to us to contain concrete actions to ensure that the risk of contagion was minimal. I understand that in a pandemic situation decisions must be respected, but we have always contested the modalities. An example was that of February 15, the date on which the lifts should have opened, and only the evening before did they notify us of the stop. It was a 'blow' in a very tough period. This false start worsened both the psychological aspect of entrepreneurs and those who work in ski resorts, but above all it greatly aggravated the economic aspect because obviously we were prepared to open the next day. It was the episode that most angered the snow sector ". "And another note should be made regarding the issue of refreshments, because we cannot wait that long. The so-called 'Fondo Montagna', which has been set up specifically for the ski resorts affected by very restrictive measures, is currently being definition and therefore in 12 months we have not received anything. It is right to do things well, to decide fairly how to share the money, but we cannot wait a year. And that is why we see the possibility of opening the plants this year. summer like the end of a very bad period ”concludes the manager of the Macugnaga plants, Filipp Besozzi.
