With Christmas practically lasting a month, you can plan a weekend or the whole week, staying at high altitudes, enjoying the snow and skiing, making a few forays into the city, or vice versa, staying overnight in Aosta and taking the cable car up to Pila.
A large free car park allows you to leave your car at the departure point of the gondola lift, a few minutes from the motorway exit, two minutes from the train station and the arrival of coaches, including Flixbus. If you want to use the car, the climb is easy, the road is kept clean, the time required is about 25 minutes.
Loved for its exposure sheltered from adverse weather conditions, Pila guarantees skiing throughout the winter up to 2700m a.s.l. The grooming of the slopes is extremely well-groomed, 4 black, 21 red, 4 blue slopes, 2 new ski mountaineering slopes, winding from an altitude of 1,540 to 2,750 metres, 15 lifts, including chair lifts, gondolas and cable cars, two ski schools which altogether boast over 170 masters.
For fun at all ages, there is the Fun Slope slope, located along the connecting route between 12 and 13 and for those who are more familiar with jumps and practice freestyle (or aspire to do so) there is Areaeffe, the Pila snow park at an altitude of 2200 meters, just above the village, a freestyle area created to meet the needs of snow acrobats. To facilitate access to the area, it is advisable to buy the ski pass online, taking advantage of the discounted rates possible with this method, even if you do not have the magnetic card to load the ticket, the card can be collected at the ski pass collection points located alongside of the cash desks in Aosta, at the departure point of the gondola lift.
Pila is not just for skiers and snowboarders. Snowshoe excursions, for example, allow you to get to know and explore the area by capturing the details of nature, the silence, the footprints of wild animals, even better if accompanied by a naturalistic environmental guide capable of explaining the unknown aspects of the mountain .
