The Prati di Tivo ski lifts had already been closed this winter due to the lack of snow and then to the Covid-19 emergency.

The Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility Department has communicated the start of the procedure for the suspension of the authorization to the public operation of the Prati di Tivo ski lifts.
The reason for this decision is the non-payment of the concession fees by the Separate Administration, a member of the Gran Sasso Teramano, for the rental of the land crossed by the ski lifts.
Thursday, July 22 there will be a meeting, convened by the President of the Province Diego Di Bonaventura, where the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Regional Council will be present with responsibility for local public transport, mobility, public works, infrastructures, Umberto De Annuntiis; the president of Asbuc (separate administration of the goods for civic use of Pietracamela), Paride Tudisco and the vice president of the province, Alessandro Recchiuti.
Concerned about the risk of the Prati di Tivo ski lifts being closed, Deputy Antonio Zennaro: “In the height of the summer and tourism season, the Prati di Tivo lifts risk closing, the deadline may be the end of August. For this I want to make an urgent appeal directly to the Abruzzo Region, to the Province of Teramo, to the Municipality of Pietracamela and to the Chamber of Commerce of Teramo, members of the Gran Sasso Teramano Spa, so that everyone can do their part to avoid closing the plants, overcome political divisions and work in a team ".
“I requested the interest of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti on a possible credit line to restructure the debt of Gran Sasso Teramano Spa, a debt which also includes the failure to pay concession fees relating to the land on which the plants are located. " - continues Zennaro - "We cannot allow damage similar to the Teramo mountain, the closure of the plants would sanction the end of many entrepreneurial activities and a surge in the level of unemployment in the Teramo internal area, never seen before. The only announcement of a temporary arrest would be fatal for many bookings in August and September, right now that it is pushing on proximity and mountain tourism due to the pandemic, we would lose a huge advantage, hikers, enthusiasts, families, could choose other destinations. A compromising message for all the tourism industries on the Teramo side of the Gran Sasso and also for the outcome of the last tender for the sale of the facilities which will expire next September ".
