May 31, the Tour of Italy'' arrives on the Monte Zoncolan

It will be the Maniago - Monte Zoncolan the last stage of the 97th edition of the High Mountain Tour of Italy. A path along 167 km, one of the most difficult and challenging, which will start from the hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia to arrive at an altitude of 1730 meters on Monte Zoncolan.

We will pass for the first San Daniele del Friuli, Majano, Buia, Bordon and Tolmezzo, pedaling on the flat for about 90 km, and then on the mountains and begin the ascent to the Passo del Pura (one of the king of the mountain with Sella rocket and Monte Zoncolan) starting from Ampezzo. The ascent provides average slope of 9% and a maximum gradient of 13%. We will pass then the lake Sauris and right after that you start the second climb, the Sella Rocket, more than 15 km long with a slope of more easy compared to the previous climb. Then follow a descent into the valley of the But where to begin Ovaro the ascent to Monte Zoncolan with an average gradient of 12% and with peaks over 20%: the ascent more hard in Europe. The Monte Zoncolan is was already stage of the Tour of Italy four more times. In 2003 it was climbed by the most Easy Sutrio and the stage was won by Gilberto Simoni, who won re also in 2007 when the climb was tackled from the side of Ovaro. The Tour of Italy returned then in Monte Zoncolan to win was in 2010 when Ivan Basso and the following year with the victory of Igor Anton.
