Val Palot

Located in the municipality of Pisogne, a few kilometres from Lake Iseo, Val Palot is a small mountain basin at the foot of Monte Guglielmo, surrounded by meadows and woodland. Its proximity to Brescia, Bergamo and the towns around Sebino made it a particularly convenient resort for families, ski schools and ski clubs.

When it was operational, the ski area offered 3 km of slopes between approximately 1,060 and 1,350 metres above sea level, served by two small lifts. The dimensions were very limited and there were no fast lifts, but the layout of the runs made it possible to separate the areas reserved for beginners from the more challenging descents.

The most distinctive run was the Duadello slope, featuring interesting gradients, changes of pace and counter-slopes. The run was also used for competitions and race training, making Val Palot a small but well-regarded training ground for ski clubs and teams. Alongside the technical slope, there were gentler slopes suitable for children and beginners. The presence of artificial snowmaking helped offset the low altitude, although it did not eliminate dependence on temperatures.

The closure of the lifts does not prevent visitors from enjoying the valley, which retains its natural value. In winter, when conditions are suitable, the area can be explored with snowshoes or ski touring equipment, paying attention to snow conditions and choosing routes suited to one’s experience. In summer, Val Palot is suitable for walks, hikes towards Monte Guglielmo, trail running and mountain biking, in a quiet, lightly developed setting.

In recent months, several proposals have been put forward to recover regional funding already allocated to the area and relaunch sporting activities, including for the summer season. At present, however, these prospects do not amount to the reopening of the ski area: Val Palot should therefore be considered a non-operational ski area.
