Snowboard cross, Italy greets a column of the national team: Emanuel Perathoner has announced his retirement

At 36, the South Tyrolean says enough, having never been able to recover from the terrible injury suffered in January 2021. "I hope snowboarding remains part of my life". For him a world bronze, five podiums in CdM and that very special triumph in Cervinia 4 years ago.

The national snowboard cross salutes a column of that fantastic group that has won practically everything over the last few seasons. Emanuel Perathoner was already there almost twenty years ago, thinking of his debut in the World Cup, in 2003 in San Candido, but it was in the last four Olympic years that he experienced some of the best moments of a career which, from this afternoon with the announcement of the person concerned via social media, it's officially over. It took fate to interrupt, in January 2021 just before starting the World Cup on the snow of Chiesa Valmalenco, a beautiful journey made up of two Olympic participations, with the quarter-finals reached in the PyeongChang 2018 race, the world bronze at Solitude 2019, 5 podiums in the World Cup including that triumph, on 22 December 2018, on the snow of Cervinia which a year later saw him for the last time in a top 3 of the maximum circuit, second behind Lorenzo Sommariva on a magical day for the Italian movement led by director Cesare Pisoni. At 36, the farewell, practically obligatory after what happened almost two years ago in training: “As many know, in January 2021 during the last training session before the start of the World Cup, I got a bad injury in the leg – Perathoner recounted in his greeting message to competitive spirit – Despite all my efforts, the thousand operations and the hard and long physiotherapy, unfortunately I can no longer compete. In these almost 20 years of my racing career, in addition to my successes, I have met many extraordinary people from all over the world. Heartfelt thanks to my wife, my parents who have always supported me, my teammates and all the technical staff, the Army Sports Center, the FISI and all my sponsors who have helped me follow the my dreams. Now a new chapter is opening and I sincerely hope that snowboarding will still remain a part of my life”.
