The mountain loses its "spider": Matteo Bernasconi overwhelmed by an avalanche in Valtellina

The well-known mountaineer of the "Ragni di Lecco" has died: the body found during the night on Pizzo del Diavolo.

A disappearance that has left all lovers of mountaineering and the mountain world in general astonished. Matteo Bernasconi was in fact a well-known and esteemed person in the environment, the "spider" who lived a thousand adventures between snow and ice. The last one was fatal, just a stone's throw from home: born in Como in 1982, Bernasconi was found dead in the night after being overwhelmed by an avalanche on Pizzo del Diavolo, in the Malgina canal, in Valtellina. His car had been found at the mouth of the valley, in the municipality of Castello dell''Acqua, in the province of Sondrio; the research involved the boys from the Cnsas-Delegazioine Valtellina Valchiavenna, men from the Sondrio station and technicians from the Avalanche Dog Units as well as the mountain rescue from the Guardia di Finanza. The recovery ended today. Bernasconi, who had returned from an expedition to Patagonia between February and March, leaves a young daughter and his partner.
