The duel at the OK Corral between Sturla Laegreid and Johannes Boe for the conquest of the 2020/2021 Biathlon World Cup takes place in the final Mass Start in Ostersund.
It is the Swedes Ponsiluoma and Samuelsson and the French Quentin Fillon Maillet who take charge of dictating the pace in the first lap of the decisive act and the race becomes selective right from the start with the two Swedes who arrogantly place 3 seconds between themselves and Johannes Boe, Fillon Maillet and Christiansen, another three seconds and the rest of the group.
Christiansen is not wrong who finds himself in command with Simon Desthiuex; Laegreid, Latypov and Doll are at 8 seconds. Twenty seconds separate Laegreid from Johannes Boe who pays an error and is thirteenth. There are two penalty laps for Lukas Hofer at 50 seconds, three for Quentin Fillon Maillet with one of the contenders for the specialty cup who finds himself at one minute and twenty seconds. Three mistakes also for Ponsiluoma while Samuelsson makes a mistake only once and is about twenty seconds behind Christiansen.
It is the Russian Latypov who unexpectedly came out in the lead from the second session on the ground with a 10 second advantage over Benjiamin Weger and half a minute over a large group where Laegreid is positioned after the error at the last target. Johannes Boe is also wrong, finding himself 46 seconds behind Latypov and fifteen seconds from his direct rival together with Samuelsson and Lukas Hofer who scores with a 5/5.
Yet another reversal in the face with Guigonnat (14/15) and Doll (14/15) who use the first standing range to gain a 13 second advantage over Latypov (13/15). Johannes Boe (13/15) is fourth at 16.5 and precedes Sturla Laegreid (13/15) by less than 6 seconds. The season is decided in the last shooting session of the last competition.
Johannes Boe quickly jumps Latypov and widens the lead over the young rival to 15 seconds at the entrance of the decisive range. Latypov is not wrong and Simon Desthieux (18/20) is the closest to 6.5. Johannes Boe makes a mistake and is third at 12.3 while Laegreid gives up with two errors finding himself at 45 seconds.
Simon Desthieux (0-1-1-0) greets the company of Russian Latypov and celebrates his second career victory with 8.9 seconds ahead of Latypov (0-0-2-0) who climbs for the first time on the podium. Johannes Boe (1-1-0-1) is third at 17.-5 and wins the overall World Cup. Fourth Christiansen (0-1-1-1) at 32.2, fifth Doll (0-1-0-3) at 36.9. Sixth place and specialty cup for Tarjei Boe (1-0-2-1), seventh Jakov Fak (1-0-0-1) and eighth Laegreid (0-1-1-2) who, in the triumphal season of his debut, he must be satisfied with the under 25 classifications in addition to the two specialty cups of Individual and Pursuit.
Lukas Hofer (2-0-2-2) is 18th at 1.32.2 from Desthieux.
