Biathlon: the German Peiffer wins the first Mass Start of the season, Hofer fourteenth

The first German victory of the season arrives with a perfect Arnd Peiffer who beats the Swedish Ponsiluoma with a perfect strategy in the last kilometer. Johannes Boe, seventh, has yet to postpone the appointment with his fiftieth victory.

Ready to go, the first Mass Start of the season starts which, as per the competition format, sees the first important junction at the shooting range where the Swedes Ponsiluoma and Samuelsson and a squad of French with Jacquelin, Fillon Maillet, Desthieux, Guigonnat pay a penalty round and they find themselves with about twenty seconds to recover from the rest of the group where Lukas Hofer is in the top positions. The situation remains very fluid even after the second session on the ground that launches Laegreid, Tarjei Boe and Johannes Boe in front of a group all in a matter of seconds where Jacquelin also peeps out, recovering what he lost previously. There are twelve biathletes in about ten seconds. A mistake for Lukas Hofer who finds himself at 22 seconds still in full swing for a top position. The platoon begins to shell in the first standing polygon: Sturla Laegreid makes no mistake and comes out with a 3.4 advantage over Ponsiluoma, Peiffer and Eder. Doll is fifth at 13.7, while around 20 seconds are Lesser, Johannes Boe after a mistake, Jacquelin, Tarjei Boe and Andersen. Another mistake by Hofer puts him in fifteenth position at 35.1 from Laegreid. In the fourth lap Johannes Boe is back on the trio Laegreid, Ponsiluoma, Peiffer but pays at the shooting range from which the svede Ponsiluoma comes out without errors alongside the German Peiffer; with an exceptional range time Jacquelin moves to 3.3 from the top with Doll at 5.8 and Tarjei Boe at 9.1. Laegreid with an error finds himself sixth, far from the fight for the podium like Johannes Boe with a two-lap penalty. The fight for victory, for both the first in a Mass Start, is between Ponsiluoma and Peiffer; while Jacquelin raises the white flag and with Doll has to stem the return of Tarjei Boe who hooks the train on the last climb. Peiffer (0-0-0-0) lets the Swede take the pace and the cold at the Sprint, victory for the German and second place for Ponsiluoma (1-0-0-0) at 1.3. Third place for Tarjei Boe (0-0-1-0) at 9.3 dacanti to Benedikt Doll (1-0-0-0) and Jacquelin (1-0-1-0). Sixth place for the enfant prodige Laegreid (0-0-0-1) at 25.0 in front of Johannes Boe (0-0-1-2). Eighth at 29.3 Samuelsson (1-1-0-0) ahead of Fillon Maillet (1-1-0-0) and Loginov (0-0-2-0). Lukas Hofer (0-1-1-1) is fourteenth at 55.6.
