Biathlon: first victory and specialty cup for the Norwegian Bakken

Surprisingly, the twenty-three year old Norwegian gets his hands on the Cup that escapes Fillon Maillet by 4 points, today only seventh. Bad shooting for the three blues with Hofer twenty-fifth.

The men's Mass Start closes the season and is decisive for the assignment of the Specialty World Cup and for the reinforcement positions in the general classification dominated by Quentin Fillon Maillet who has already posted the Sprint and Pursuit Cups and is favorite for a third specialty cup in his exceptional season. The main rival with 15 points to recover is Christiansen chasing his first Cup while the German Doll is absent, who should have recovered 19. Laegreid and Fillon Maillet put the group in single file in the first lap; a double error by Fillon Maillet at the first polygon where there are 17 not to make mistakes, including Hofer, in the space of 15 seconds. Samuelsson makes no mistake and finds himself without errors with 8 seconds on Bakken and 15 on Christiansen. After the error Laegreid is fourth at 18.2 with Zobel (15/15). Fillon Maillet makes no mistake and climbs to fifteenth position at 1.08.9; there are two errors by Hofer who falls two minutes from the first, also for Bormolini 15 seconds behind and for Giacomel at 2.47.8. Positions crystallized in the fourth lap except for a lunge by Laegreid that reached Bakken at the same time as a small collapse by Christiansen waiting for the final verdict of the last polygon of the season. One mistake for Laegreid, three for Samulesson; Bakken and Laegreid are leading with 8 seconds on Lesser and Jacquelin and 11 on Christiansen. Quentin Fillon Maillet is not wrong, climbing back to ninth position. Victory and specialty cup decided, as for the girls, on the last lap. Laegreid takes Bakken back and Lesser and Jacquelin do not give up, it is a decision in the sprint for the victory. For the first time in his career, Sivert Bakken (0-0-0-0) wins in a split and gets his hands on the World Cup at the age of 23. According to an indomitable Laegreid (0-0-1-1), second in the general classification. Third Jacquelin (0-0-2-0) at 13.4, fourth Lesser (1-1-0-0) at 21.6, fifth Nawrath (0-0-1-0) at 31.5, sixth Christiansen (0-0-0 -0) to 44.8. Quentin Fillon Maillet (2-1-0-0), seventh at 48.4 loses the specialty cup Bad shot for the blues: Hofer (0-1-20) is twenty-fifth at 3.33.3, twenty-sixth Bormolini (1-1-1-1), twenty-seventh Giacomel (1-3-1-1).
