Fourcade brace at Oberhof: also wins the Mass Start

The Frenchman, free from pressure from Johannes Boe, relaunches himself with a double victory in the first stage of 2020.

The French player imposed himself marginally, proving himself the master of the Mass Start of Oberhof after conceding in the third lap (the fourth effective in the light of the conformation chosen for the conditions of the route) the free exit Arnd Peiffer who with two errors in an erratic first session in Feet loses the chance to conquer his first victory in an online start test. Exhausted the outburst of the German, Fourcade finds himself leading the dances with teammate Simon Desthieux and the last polygon seals the victory number 79 for the winner of the Sprint on Friday who can afford an error while the compatriot has to make two laps penalty and leaves the shooting range at 27 seconds with 14 seconds to administer on Arnd Peiffer who has the advantage of never giving up. On the finish Martin Fourcade precedes by 20 seconds the German who recovers on a Desthieux in crisis on skis and burns him on the final straight. In fourth position, to the nth confirmation of an exceptional debut season, the Norwegian Johannes Dale who with four errors allows himself the luxury of climbing over the final lap Jakov Fak, three penalties for him, and closes at 43.1 from Fourcade. The German Patrick Horn is sixth ahead of the Swede Nelin, Christiansen, Krcmar and Eliseev while sinking with 7 errors, 4 of which at the last polygon, Tarjei Boe only twenty-fifth. Gritting his teeth, struggling with the aftermath of yesterday's fall, Dominik Windisch closes in twenty-second position with two errors in the second polygon and two in the fourth. There are eight mistakes made by Lukas Hofer, twenty-sixth at the end. With the double victory, Martin Fourcade snatched the yellow bib from Johannes Boe at the end of the first stage of paternity leave of the holder of the crystal ball. The Frenchman, with 387 points, precedes Johannes (374), Desthieux (352), Tarjei Boe (342), Loginov (328) and Fillon Maillet (329).
