IBU Cup, what a victory for Federica Sanfilippo in her Val Ridanna: she is ready to return to the CdM

A better season debut at IBU Cup level would not have been possible for Federica Sanfilippo. With an extraordinary performance on skis, the 32-year-old native of Val Ridanna won at home and made it clear that she is still an athlete to be reckoned with, ready to return to the World Cup. In the women's Sprint that inaugurated the South Tyrolean stage of the second most important circuit in the panorama of the great biathlon, Sanfilippo only allowed herself a mistake when shooting on the ground, leaving behind a name of weight like that of Vanessa Hinz, second with 9"5 late, and the French Paula Botet (+ 11”7). In fourth and fifth position again Germany and France with Marion Wiesensarter (+ 22”8), the first athlete without missed targets, and Gilonne Guigonnat. In addition to Sanfilippo, for the Pursuit on Saturday (there will be no competition in Val Ridanna on Friday), the other blue women in the race also qualified, namely Michela Carrara (20th), Eleonora Fauner (22nd), Martina Trabucchi (26th), Sara Scattolo (35th) and Beatrice Trabucchi (47th). On a day with perfect conditions, with pleasant temperatures around zero and very little wind, it was above all the Norwegians who demonstrated their skills in the men's race. Four biathletes from the Scandinavian country ranked among the top five athletes; in particular, the performance of the winner Endre Stroemsheim was remarkable, confirming what he did last week in the IBU Cup in Idre Fjaell, where he won the two sprints and the individual race and finished second in the pursuit. Despite a mistake when shooting on the ground, the left-handed Norge recovered with a showdown on skis and won with a 2”2 lead over the Frenchman Oscar Lombardot, who made no mistakes when shooting. The positions from third to fifth went to three Norwegians, in fact: Martin Uldal climbed to the third step of the podium (+ 6"6 compared to the winner), behind him were classified Mats Oeverby (+ 7"2) and Aleksander Fjeld Andersen (+11”9). Fair news also for the Italian team: Elia Zeni, already very brilliant in the IBU Cup jr on the snow of Val Martello last week, was the best with a good 16th place, Iacopo Leonesio concluded 30th, Cedric Christille 34th, Nicola Romanin ( 36th) and Michele Molinari, 44th. “I never expected it, it's so nice to win a match like this at home - Sanfilippo's words, through the event's ramp office, after the match - I actually made a mistake, but I concentrated only on the my job. First of all I wanted to prove to myself that I can still do it. I am very happy to have won here, where my ski club is, in front of my parents and my friends.
