Fresh from the best stage of his career, closed with a 13th place in the Sprint and a 14th in the Pursuit, Thomas Bormolini arrives in Ruhpolding as team leader (even if Lukas Hofer returns to the race today) and with the goal of the first top 10 in career. At the start there will be no less than 8 of the top 15 of the general, with all the Norwegian "big" absent, as well as Kuehn, Weger and Latypov stopped by Covid. There is space for an insertion on the upper floors, even if the second norge lines could be frightening, but the zero at the polygon will be fundamental.
For Italy, as mentioned, there will also be Lukas Hofer (35), as well as Tommaso Giacomel (46), Dominik Windisch (82) and Didier Bionaz (104).

In front of Fillon Maillet, Jacquelin and Samuelsson want to stretch over the Norwegians (absent and retired to prepare for the Olympic Games) in the overall World Cup standings. The Swede boasts two wins this season in the most uncertain format on the circuit. In fact, in five Sprints disputed there were four different winners and 12 athletes reached the podium. Fillon Maillet will try to "defend himself" in the format that is less congenial to him, and then go full attack in Sunday's Pursuit. Instead, the fight between Jacquelin and Samuelsson is very open also for leadership in the specialty ranking. The Ruhpolding Sprint roll of honor in the last decade is clear and bears the names of Martin Fourcade (4 wins) and Johannes Boe (3): who will be the worthy heir to these two phenomena?
