Biathlon World Championships: Simon and Guigonnat Oro in the Pairs Relay, Wierer collapses at the last polygon

France won the gold medal in the Mixed Pairs Relay of the Pokljuka World Championships by dueling with Norway to the last meter. Italy fighting for Gold until the last polygon pays Dorothea Wierer's penalty round.

Lukas Hofer got off to a great start in the first lap, also keeping up with Johannes Boe who had to recharge in the shooting range; the two set off to attack and lead Christian Gow, Eric Lesser and Simon Eder to pursue them. Standing is Eder to score 5/5 while Hofer misses once and Boe twice. At the first change, the three have 10 seconds ahead of Jakov Fak (0 + 2), 14 over Samuelsson (0 + 3), Gow (0 + 2), Guigonnat (0 + 3) and Pryma (0 + 1). Dorothea Wierer is perfect at the first range and gains 6 seconds on Eckhoff using a reload, 9 on Hanna Oeberg and Hauser, two seconds behind Julia Simon. The blue also comes out unscathed from the second session and by mid-race Italy has 7 seconds ahead of Hauser (0 + 1), Simon (0 + 0 = and Eckhoff (0 + 2). 13 seconds Hanna Oeberg ( 0 + 1) and the Ukrainian Blashko (0 + 0). Hofer and Boe again appear together; the Norwegian pays three errors and slips to 21 seconds from the blue who uses only one reload and Guigonnat (5/5); Samuelsspn (5/5) is at 6 seconds with Eder (4/5), Pryma (5/5) at 10. Standing Guigonnat takes advantage and at the last change France has 5 seconds on Lukas Hofer (0 + 2 in the fraction), 11 on Samuelsson (0 + 1), 16 on Pryma (0 + 0) and Johannes Boe (0 + 4). Dorothea Wierer and Julia Simon work hard to keep the advantage over her pursuers and the Frenchwoman gains a few meters on the blue. Dorothea makes no mistake at the shooting range while Simon uses a reload, the two have a ten-second advantage over Tiril Eckhoff, 15 over the Ukrainian Blashko and 18 over Oeberg and Hauser. The last shooting session promises to be decisive for the podium: Dorothea collapses at the last shooting range and runs into a penalty lap while Eckhoff and Julia Simon fly to fight for the Gold medal and Oeberge Blashko in a dozen seconds the bronze. France wins (0 + 5) or with 2.8 advantage over Norway (0 + 99, Bronze medal for Sweden (0 + 8) at 22.6; fifth place for Italy (1 + 6) at 55.2 preceded also from Ukraine (0 + 2).
