As expected, Johannes Thingnes Bø immediately took a step on the unsustainable skiing for the opponents, entering the polygon with almost a marginal error on the first of the pursuers, Alexander Loginov. Everyone missed one or more targets and Dmytro Pidruchnyi pulled himself into second place. The Ukrainian went 48 "behind the leader of the race with the French Guigonnat and Fillon Maillet, Tarjei Bø and Garanichev.
Johannes Bø entered the final polygon with a minute of margin on his pursuers, but he even made three mistakes, reopening the game for the gold medal. The opportunity was taken by Pidruchnyi, who with the "zero" took the lead with 15 "on the Norwegian phenomenon.
In the final round the two dueled for the victory. Bø went to the head but the Ukrainian defended the advantage very well, winning the first gold medal in the men's field for his country. The Norwegian has been satisfied with the 'silver, a result that is tight in light of the absolute domination that has shown for three quarters of the race.
Behind the fight for the bronze medal was solved only in the sprint, with the French Fillon Maillet who preceded Tarjei Bø.
