In truth the victory barometer began to focus firmly on Martin Fourcade from the first shooting range, after which the Frenchman was soon found in her own head. The twenty-eight Fort Romeu has in fact covered all the targets, unlike Benedikt Doll and Johannes Bø, forced to travel once the penalty ring.
Transalpine has then been able to handle the situation at will, managing to clean out even from the second and third shooting session, rising simultaneously with bullets on narrow skis than avversarsi. The only mistake was made its last target, the race to become acquired.
Fourcade was thus able to transform into a walkway round the final, fully enjoying the gold medal (the tenth at the individual level in the field of world champion), as well as win number 60 of his career in top-level competitions.
However, for the Catalan they are 4 world titles dell''inseguimento, as many as those won by Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, now paired atop the standings of athletes with the most iridescent statements in this format. The Norwegian also is seen approached one length to tout-court achievements voice (11, against Martin 10).
However Scandinavian veteran proved not to be exceeded at all, since it was among the protagonists of the competition, settling just behind Fourcade since the second polygon and remaining there (almost) to the finish line thanks to a remarkable precision. Finally the "old" Ole has put a bronze medal around his neck, further enriching its already impressive collection of metals.
If we look at the World Cup, with that today are 26 individual medals in his career (9/6/11) and 45 those totals (20-14-11), inclusive of those obtained in the relay. It goes without saying that with this third place, Bjoerndalen also remodeling the record that already belonged to the oldest athlete to be on the podium in the World Cup (43 years and 15 days).
Between the two is inserted Johannes Bø, who harpooned silver after seriously threatened to undermine his race. The young Scandinavian has indeed committed an error in each of the first three shooting sessions, slipping to eighth place in more than half a minute from the top-three. However, it was able to revive its fortunes thanks to a rapid zero to fourth range and a powerful final lap.
At the foot of the podium they were placed in the order Anton Shipulin, who has paid the disadvantageous starting position (21 °), Ondrej Moravec, always remained in the top positions, and Lowell Bailey, came out for the second polygon from closing, but then sucked by several opponents.
Seventh Krasimir Anev that, after a long flirted with a medal remains many kilometers in Bjørndalen company, has seen fade once again the podium because of a missed target last polygon. The winner of the sprint Benedikt Doll is back in the ranks at the shooting range (1 + 1 + 1 + 0), finishing in eleventh place.
Italy at home the best was Dominik Windisch (2 + 1 + 0 + 0), which stood in 25th position. But the happiest day of note is again Joseph Montello (0 + 1 + 0 + 0), able to reap the first career points thanks to 34th place. He finished 48th Thomas Bormolini (0 + 2 + 1 + 0), while it has not taken off Lukas Hofer, very lingered after the sprint.
In the overall standings of the World Cup, so Fourcade to change lengthens, reaching 932 points. Shipulin consolidates its second place with 611, while Schempp (585) still retains margin of Johannes Bø (533).
In the ranking of specialties Fourcade raise it to 348 points, compared with 247 the Shipulin, 203 Peiffer and Schempp.
About Fourcade, with today are 11 victories in the season. One is missing to equal the record set by Bjoerndalen in 2004-'05 ...
Now the World Cup will take two days off. Women back on track Wednesday at 14:30 for the individual, while the men will compete in the same format at the same time on Thursday.
